In the 1990s, Denis Leary established himself as the “angry comic,” who chain smoked and babbled about anything and everything that irritated him. Why We Suck and Rescue Me
Leary received his first television leading role in the one-camera sitcom The Job in 2000. Lenny Clarke and Adam Ferrara, two more comedians, costarred with Leary as an NYPD officer. Even though the show received favorable reviews, it was cancelled after just one season.
As the drunken, divorced firefighter Tommy Gavin on the FX comedy/drama series Rescue Me, he made a comeback to television in 2004. Leary received praise from the critics and nominations for awards for his work on the program.
