David Wenham was born on September 21th, 1965, in Marrickville, Sydney. He has one brother and five sisters; his parents raised him as a Roman Catholic. In 1987, he graduated from the University of Western Sydney, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree. In the same year he started his acting career with episode roles in TV series and small roles in TV movies.
Australian actor David Wenham originally became famous from his role of “Faramir” in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Other well-known roles were in movies 300, 300: Rise of an Empire, and Australia with Nicole Kidman.
He was a guest star in Sons and Daughters and then continued his roles in Police Rescue, Heartland, Greenkeeping, Blue Heels, Poor Man’s Orange, Simone de Beauvoir’s Babies, A Country Practice, Roses Are Red, The Heroes and One of Us.
He quickly became known all over Australia when he “Diver Dan” in the series SeaChange. His role of Dan Della Bosca or “Diver Dan” on TV series SeaChange made him very popular among women. He was even voted as the “Australia’s sexiest man alive”. In 2000, Wenham’s portrait by Adam Cullen was awarded with the Archibald Prize. The actor is also signed to a London based model agency, Storm Model Management.
After SeaChange became a hit he began to appear in bigger motion pictures like The Bank, The Proposition, Moulin Rouge, Van Helsing, Pope Joan and became world famous with The Lord of the Rings.
There is no doubt his charismatic appearance and his acting skills has helped him greatly in building a career. Wenham lives with his girlfriend, actress Kate Agnew, sine 1994. The couple have two daughters together.
