David Burtka was born on May 29, 1975 in Dearborn, Michigan. He graduated from Salem High School in 1993 and than studied acting at Interlochen Center for the Arts, got his Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Michigan and had further education at the William Esper Studios.
He first appeared in TV in 2002 with a guest role on The West Wing. His Broadway debut was role of Tulsa in the 2003 revival of Gypsy. David originated the role of Matt in the musical The Opposite of Sex in 2004 and reprized the role in 2006. He appeared in seven episodes of How I Met Your Mother as Scooter, the former high school boyfriend of Lily. David returned to Broadway in It Shoulda Been You, directed by David Hyde Pierce, in April 2015, in role of a Catholic boyfriend of a Jewish bride.
