Conor McGregor is an Irish boxer and MMA fighter who has fought four or five notorious fights in the UFC. Fights that are just as well known for their pre- and post antics as the actual matches. Aside from his income from fighting, McGregor has made a name for himself in several different industries including whiskey and clothing. When it comes to his brand of whiskey, Proper Twelve, it was reported that sales revenue was an estimated $1 billion in the United States in 2019. Which is nowhere near the best selling Irish whiskey brand, Jameson. A company that did sales of €5.474 billion in a six month period in 2020. But still an incredible achievement for the Irish fighter and nobody saw that coming.
McGregor sold the company in 2021 for a closing price of an estimated $600 million.
He also has a successful clothing line, August McGregor, as well as another company that protects his personal brand, McGregor Sports and Entertainment.
As mentioned, McGregor claimed on Instagram that he is now a billionaire, writing that “I fought for billionaires and then became one myself.” The billionaires he is referring to are the UFC owners The Fertitta Brothers.
After selling the UFC The Fertitta Brothers suddenly became worth a cool $2 billion (each). But the truth of the matter is that McGregor isn’t close to that nice ten-figure number yet. With desire, faith and true grit I’m sure one day he can make it, if he chooses to knuckle down in that direction. That said, while he’s shy about $750 million, by my estimates anyway, his net worth of about $185 million ain’t too shabby now is it.
What’s more with massive purse winnings he’s built up a principle net worth from which to invest and ply his talents as an entrepreneur. When McGregor jumped in to fight “Money” “Pretty Boy” Mayweather (2017) he was guaranteed $30 million prior to the fight but ended up making an estimated $85 million! McGregor became extremely famous in the early 2010s making waves in the industry and becoming known for his attitude and tattoos. Like the one with MCGREGOR across his abdomen or forget about it the crowned gorilla eating a heart across his chest. Naming himself The Notorious and with his protector across his chest McGregor started making hundreds of thousands of dollars and rose through the ranks in the Octagon. At the time, McGregor had an uncanny ability of knocking out UFC legend after UFC legend.
He took out Eddie Alvarez and Jose Aldo, considered two of the best MMA fighters in the UFC. He also beat Dustin Poirier in 2014, lest you forget that.
Still, up til 2017, Conor McGregor was far from a household name but that was all about to change. It was in that year that McGregor got hit by the wealth bullet. He challenged perhaps the greatest boxer of all time, Money Mayweather. People called McGregor foolish because he wasn’t technically a professional boxer, he was an MMA fighter and very few people saw him up to compete. The truth is not a single person has ever beaten Floyd Mayweather so it was unsurprising when McGregor lost, but he didn’t care, he earned as much as $100 million from the competition and guaranteed his name in boxing history as well.

McGregor’s other bouts include a loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov, which went every round, but McGregor eventually tapped out when Khabib was close to choking him to death. And the year before last when we saw one of McGregor’s greatest victories yet, he took out Donald Cerrone within mere seconds. Cowboy is a good fighter too, not to mention has good stories to boot. On that occasion though he got beat, apparently costing “poker player” “extraordinaire” Dan Bilzerian $1 million dollars in the process. But if you’re going to play big or go home then you may want to hide under the sheets for a little while… no worries though, I’m sure he’ll have good company.

Most people already know that once Conor hit it rich he went after and attained a luxury lifestyle for himself.
I remember seeing pictures of him standing in front of the same car that he appeared to have bought in red, yellow and blue. I think he may have turned into Joey Tribbiani when he bought all those cars, “The guy said they suited me. He spoke with an accent. I was all confused.”

Arguably more famous than his professional fights, McGregor has been subject to criticism in recent years for allegations ranging from pub fights to sexual assaults, and criminal mischief. In mid 2018, the McGregor threw a giant steel dolly through a moving bus window, as it apparently held his next opponent inside and the trash talk between the two had gotten way out of hand.
Several people were injured and a warrant put out for McGregor’s arrest. Though there are many skeptics who say this was all a well-organized publicity stunt, McGregor was arrested, forced to pay a $50,000 bail, and was subsequently sued by the injured people on board the bus. Despite the UFC using some of the footage in their promotion video, I don’t think that Dana White or the billionaire brothers were happy about what happened at all. The fact is, on this occasion Conor McGregor was out of hand.
The following year, McGregor’s attitude seems to go from bad to worse. Tabloids were now documenting his every move worldwide and it wasn’t pretty. In Miami Beach, McGregor allegedly took a man’s phone and smashed it on the ground; he was arrested for strong-armed robbery and criminal mischief. Though the fan initially tried pressing charges against McGregor, charges were dropped after they settled out of court. I didn’t follow the case but I am aware that when someone gets rich and famous, it brings pleasure-takers out of the woodwork. Like for example what happened to Mike Tyson on the plane, in my opinion, I consider that to be someone specifically trying to get a rise out of Mike.
In 2020, McGregor was arrested in Corsica on suspicion of attempted sexual assault and indecent exposure for an alleged incident reported to have taken place in a bar, according to Sky.
What Makes Mcgregor So Successful?
Conor McGregor is a genius at marketing and self-promoting. His personal brand has grown in many different directions and, if I remember correctly, he was even promoting an info product online way back when. I remember watching the promotional video featuring McGregor. He was promising to help people who signed up develop the cardiovascular skills it took for him to beat Nate Diaz. Since then he has been in clothing, alcoholic spirits and even has a blog called The Mac Life.
Whether it’s talking his way into a superfight against Money Mayweather or creating a whisky brand that’s done an estimated $2 billion or more in sales, Mcgregor is always right on the money. But can he hold his act together long enough to reach the big B, well we’ll just have to wait and see.
Perhaps McGregor’s bad boy attitude and “enfant terrible of the UFC” image can actually work out well. He certainly used the stage front and center to promote his Whisky brand, and it worked, too. While unpredictable he definitely squeezes every ounce of juice out of an agreement. Dana White must be proud of his prodigy all the same and nobody built up the UFC’s name more than Conor McGregor, aside from Dana himself.

That is one of the endearing things about the man, his patriotism and love of Irish history has his fans in a perpetual excitable frenzy, something that has resonated with him at home in Dublin and with the American viewers, as well. He has a story, he has a background, he has a history in the UFC and in boxing and he has leveraged all of this into some very lucrative business deals. Kudos.
