Who is Chuck Schumer
Charles Ellis Schumer is an American politician. He is a sitting senior senator from New York, a seat from which he was first elected in 1998. A member of the Democratic Party, he has served as the Senate minority leader since 2017.
Charles Ellis Schumer was born on November 23rd, 1950, in New York City. During his studies at Harvard University, his interest in politics began. After earning his Juris Doctor at Harvard Law School, he didn’t practise but decided to pursue a career in politics instead.
Schumer’s first success came when he was elected to the New York State Assembly in 1974. During his career, he was the Member of the New York State Assembly from the 45th district, Member of the U.S. House of Representatives from New York, Chair of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, Chair of the Senate Rules Committee, Vice-Chair of the Senate Democratic Caucus, and the Chair of the Senate Democratic Policy Committee. Schumer won his fourth term in the Senate in 2016 and was then unanimously elected Minority Leader to succeed Harry Reid, who was retiring.
Schumer published a book titled Positively American: Winning Back the Middle-Class Majority One Family at a Time in January 2007. He is married to Iris Weinshall. They had their wedding ceremony at the top of the World Trade Center’s north tower in September 1980. The couple has two daughters.
