In the beginning, when the Backstreet Boys were still in the process of forming, Kirkpatrick had not been aware of their auditions. Kirkpatrick grew interested in doing more than just a cappella after learning about the work that Lou Pearlman was doing with the Backstreet Boys. After finally meeting Chris Kirkpatrick and watching him perform in his doo-wop group, Lou Pearlman took an immediate interest in him.

The first episode of the show, which aired on August 7, 2007, was on a new group being formed by former members of boy bands from the 1990s. During the holiday-themed program that was broadcast on December 6, 2021, he contributed his vocals to a number of well-known Christmas carols and songs, including Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree.
