About Chris Colfer

Breaking LGBT boundaries onscreen and off and flaunting his killer vocal range on Glee. A fresh face in entertainment best known for his role in the hit television comedy-musical Glee, this diminutive star is taking Hollywood by storm. Identifiable by his high-pitched voice and porcelain doll features, Chris Colfer brings natural talent and personality to his character, making him an indispensable part of the show’s ensemble.

American actor, singer, and author Chris Colfer has an estimated net worth of $10 million dollars, as of 2023.

Finding Glee

Christopher Paul Colfer was born in a small town near Fresno, California. Throughout high school, Colfer kept himself busy with a loaded schedule of extracurricular activities. Not only was he the president of the writer’s club, editor of the school literary magazine and a three-time speech and debate champion, he was also heavily involved in drama. Colfer took part in the community theater, performing in classic productions like Oliver! and The Sound of Music. In his senior year, Colfer wrote and directed a reversed gender parody of the dark musical Sweeney Todd renamed ‘Shirley Todd.’

Despite all of his efforts, he was still a black sheep amongst his peers.

After high school, Colfer sought out a professional career in acting, which eventually led him into an audition for FOX’s sensational series, Glee, about a high school choral group.

Colfer had originally tried out for the role of Artie, a wheelchair-bound student, but did not get the part. Instead, his audition inspired the show’s creator (and Colfer’s longtime idol), Ryan Murphy, to tailor a more fitting role to suit Colfer in the cast.

Gleeful

As Kurt Hummel, a fashion savvy, openly gay countertenor, Chris became a fan favorite and an unlikely role model for gay teens everywhere. The show’s portrayal of kids overcoming a vast array of hardships hit a nerve with real life kids struggling with the cruel and unforgiving world of high school. As a gay teen who was no stranger to bullying in the past, Colfer shared much in common with his character. Although his character shared some of the gay stereotypes that often flood television sitcoms, Colfer portrayed a much more relatable, well-rounded person. His performance on the show earned him an Emmy nomination in 2010 and won him a Golden Globe in 2011, which was an astonishing feat considering it was his first professional acting job.

Colfer has been with Glee since its beginning in 2009, working alongside up-and-coming stars like Lea Michele, Matthew Morrison and Dianna Agron. In a reflection of his role in the series, Colfer said, “I’m so happy to be a part of something that is so new and different and so needed at this time.”

Branching Out

In other projects, Colfer starred in a short film entitled ‘Russel Fish: The Sausage and Eggs Incident’ (2009). Tapping into his well of creativity, Colfer also wrote and starred in the coming-of-age comedy Struck by Lightning (2012). But whatever great heights of fame Chris Colfer may reach, he will always be fondly remembered for his hilarious rendition of Beyonce’s ‘Single Ladies’ video on Glee.

“I recall spending hours and hours on my Facebook and MySpace when I was in high school, constantly refreshing the page, just hoping somebody sent me something, like a message or left a comment, or just any kind of communication with another human being.”
