About Chan Sung Jung
Chan Sung Jung, aka “The Korean Zombie” lost a controversial split decision against Leonard Garcia at WEC 48. He did not want to leave it up to the judges when he faced him again at UFC Fight Night: Nogueira vs. Davis. happy news No, he didn’t.
Simply simply, Jung was able to attach a submission that was taken directly from Eddie Bravo’s and comic book culture. A twister, indeed. And the entire MMA community took note when Garcia submitted to the hold in round two. This is the tale of The Korean Zombie.

Early Years and the Study of Martial Arts
When Jung was in his mid-teens, his family relocated to Nam Yang Ju, a Seoul, South Korea, satellite city. His aunt enrolled him in Hapkido training since he was bullied and beaten up there far too frequently. Hapkido is a martial technique that originated in Korea (in some ways the Korean equivalent of judo). He practiced Hapkido until he was 18 years old, at which point he joined a kickboxing gym. Along the road, he earned a black belt in Taekwondo. Jung won a sambo contest in June 2007. But his triumphs in competition didn’t end there.
Beginnings of MMA
In the Pancrase Korea Neo-Blood Lightweight Tournament Quarter-Final on June 24, 2007, Jung made his MMA debut and triumphed through armbar in the second round. He ultimately prevailed in the competition. In fact, he won all nine of his professional MMA matches, with seven of those victories coming through submission. Masanori Kanehara defeated Jung in his opening match through decision. After two battles, he would find himself competing for Zuffa in the United States.
Zuffa First
After having some success for Sengoku, Jung made his WEC debut at WEC 48 on April 24, 2010, losing to Leonard Garcia by the aforementioned contentious split decision. Then, via KO, he was defeated by George Roop for the organization (head kick). But when the WEC merged with the UFC, Jung really started to shine, taking revenge on Leonard Garcia with the now-famous twister submission. On May 15, 2012, he defeated Dustin Poirier in a fight that was a contender for Fight of the Year, prevailing through D’Arce choke.
Combative Style
Chan Sung Jung has fought in a number of excellent matches, largely as a result of his intense aggression, powerful punches, and exceptional submission abilities. This combined with a strong jaw makes for some epic battles. The wonderful thing about Jung is that he always strives to complete things.
