About Carl Edwards

Carl Edwards was born on August 15th, 1979, in Columbia, Missouri. He studied at the University of Missouri and worked as a substitute teacher before he became a professional driver. In 2003, he finally got a chance by Jack Roush after a successful race in 7 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. He won his first race in the No. 99 Ford F-150 and was honored as the “Rookie of the Year”.

American former professional stock car racing driver Carl Edwards has an estimated net worth of $70 million dollars, as of 2023. Edwards last competed in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, driving the No. 19 Toyota Camry for Joe Gibbs Racing. Prior to that, he drove the No. 99 Ford Fusion for Roush Fenway Racing.

  • Rookie Season: Started 14 Sprint Cup races in 2004 to lose his rookie status. Best finish 3rd in Atlanta.

Carl Edwards came up through USAC pavement racing and the Baby-Grand series from his roots at Capital Speedway in Missouri. After starting 7 truck series races in 2002 he ran the full truck series schedule in 2003 and won three races on his way to winning the Craftsman Truck series Rookie Of The Year title.

2004 found three more truck series wins and a fourth place points finish. But more importantly he was named as the heir-apparent to Mark Martin’s #6 ride in the Sprint Cup series. However, when Jeff Burton accepted a ride with Richard Childress in the middle of 2004 Jack Roush picked Carl Edwards to fill Burton’s seat in the #99 instead of having him wait for Martin’s #6.

Carl ran 13 Sprint Cup series races in 2004 with a best finish of third. This partial season ruined Carl’s chances to ever win the Sprint Cup Rookie of the Year honors, but Carl didn’t seem to mind.

For the next few seasons Carl Edwards ran both the full NASCAR Nationwide Series and NASCAR Sprint Cup Series schedules. He was rewarded for his busy schedule with the 2007 NASCAR Nationwide Series Championship as well as second place Nationwide points finishes in 2006, 2008, 2009 and 1010.

Carl Edwards also found success quickly in the NASCAR Sprint Cup series. Edwards won four races in his first full season and finished third in points. In 2008 he exploded with nine Sprint Cup wins and a second place points effort behind Jimmie Johnson. Again in 2011 Carl Edwards was a serious points contender. Edwards came into the final race of the season leading the points but left disappointed as Tony Stewart won the race, tied Edwards in points and was awarded the Championship because he had more wins than Edwards.

Carl knows how to get the job done at the sport’s highest level. Given the right circumstances and a little bit of luck Carl Edwards could easily be a future NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion.

Former professional car driver Carl Edwards is best known for driving the Toyota Camry with number 19 in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.

During his great career as a professional racer, he competed in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, NASCAR Xfinity Series, and lately the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. The 2016 season was his last, finishing in 4th place overall. In January 2017, it was announced he was retiring to pursue new life opportunities and he was replaced by Daniel Suárez. Besides his career in racing, Edwards has been working on his record label Back40 Records, which he established with a high school friend.

In 2005, Edwards started dating Olympic swimmer Amanda Beard. However, they eventually broke up. In 2009, Edwards married Katherine Downey. They have two children together, son Michael and daughter Anne. His wife Katherine has a doctorate in medicine from Kansas City School of Medicine. She is an expert on severe brain injuries.
