Cardi B made an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where she reminded us how incredibly funny she is. She was there to promote her new album, Bartier Cardi, however, all she managed to do is prove that she’s the most charming person ever. Not only did she make host Jimmy Fallon die of laughter, but he was left speechless over her hilarious antics. After last night, someone should give Cardi her very own show because it’s safe to say we would ALL tune in.
During her visit, the “Bodak Yellow” rapper discussed her name’s origin story (it’s a great one!), she talked about getting engaged, and she also revealed that she isn’t giving any adults in her family Christmas presents this year. All this to say, she had Fallon in stitches. He almost didn’t know how to interview her properly, proving that he met his match in Cardi.
So what exactly are the origins of her name? Well, it’s a pretty simple story when Cardi, whose real name is Belcalis Almanzar, tells it.
“You know what, my sister name is Hennessy, so everybody used to call me Bacardi,” she revealed. “Then it was my Instagram name, Bacardi, Bacardi B, but for some reason, my Instagram kept getting deleted, and you know what I think it was Bacardi [the alcohol company] that had something to do with it. So I just changed it to Cardi B.”
“He always used to tell me, ‘I’m going to marry you,’” Cardi said. “And it’s just like, ‘It’s the right thing to do.’ I knew he was going to give me a very expensive gift because he wasn’t there for my birthday, but I thought he was going to give me a watch or something. He just went out his way.”
Jimmy, who struggled to keep a straight face, also asked Cardi to explain her tweet from earlier this month, where she declared, “I’m not giving NO ADULTS NO Christmas gift.”
“You wanna know something? Everybody that I know got kids and that’s just a lot of kids,” Cardi explained. “And I got new God kids out of nowhere. You know once you start making money, everybody want you to be their kids’ Godmother or something.”
If you haven’t yet boarded the Cardi B train, this interview will definitely make you a fan!
