About Brian Tee
Jae-Beom Takata also known as Brian Tee, is a Japanese actor who works in both film and television. In addition to appearing in movies like The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006), The Wolverine (2013), Jurassic World (2015), and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, he is most recognized for his role as Dr. Ethan Choi on the NBC medical drama Chicago Med and its spin-offs (2016).
His mother was from South Korea, and his father was an American-born Japanese. During World War II, his father was born in an internment camp. His mother was a reporter who resided and worked in Japan.
Madelyn Skyler Takata, a daughter he has with actress Mirelly Taylor, was born in 2015.
He was raised in Southern California after moving to Hacienda Heights, California, at the age of two. He was the football team captain and the president of the Associated Student Body when a student at Glen A. Wilson High School. He worked at Blackjack Pizza in Hacienda Heights while still a high school student.
Tee earned a degree in theater and performing arts from the University of California, Berkeley.
He chose his “culturally ambiguous” stage name Brian Tee soon after graduating after being turned down for a role by a Korean director because of his Japanese last name.
On Nickelodeon’s Zoey 101, Tee portrayed Kazu, the proprietor of Sushi Rox. In Crash, he portrayed Eddie Choi. He played Takeda on Burn Notice and Akira Kimura on Grimm, respectively. On the television show Bones, he played Ken Nakamura in the episode “The Girl in the Mask” from season 4. In the independent movie Roswell FM, he portrayed Dwayne Archimedes. As a Korean criminal, Tee made an appearance in an episode of Dark Blue in the first season. He appeared briefly as a pedestrian in Austin Powers in Goldmember ( “Run! We should flee as if Godzilla were here—Goldzilla! it’s “). Brian has also appeared as a participant on a Tom Bergeron-hosted edition of Hollywood Squares. In 1999, he faced off against a Heidi.
Tee also appeared in the Far East Movement music video for “Dance Like Michael Jackson.”
