American blues musician, guitarist, composer, and activist Bonnie Lynn Raitt was born on November 8, 1949. Her estimated net worth is $12 million. It is almost impossible to imagine Bonnie Raitt not being musically talented from birth. Her father, John Raitt, was a Broadway musical performer and vocalist who frequently appeared on stage. Marge Goddard, her mother, was a talented pianist and singer.

Music was almost what might have been
The motivation for Raitt’s 1967 enrollment in Harvard’s Radcliffe College was social activism rather than music. No quick success
Her 1971 self-titled debut album and the following four were universally acclaimed by reviewers but only moderately to mediocrely successful commercially. Her sixth album, Sweet Forgiveness, released in 1977, helped her finally gain recognition from the general public thanks in large part to her rendition of the song “Runaway” which had been a #1 hit for its co-writer, Del Shannon, in 1961.
Her next two albums reached the Top 40, but in 1983 Warner Bros. decided to cut her from their roster along with a number of other well-known musicians, including Van Morrison and Arlo Guthrie. She didn’t have a label, and her drug and alcohol misuse issues were getting worse. Warner Bros. opted to reissue the album Raitt was working on when she was terminated in 1986, but Nine Lives was not well received by reviewers or the general public.

The first of a series of multi-platinum albums through the 1990s, Nick Of Time, was released by Raitt in 1989 after giving up alcohol and narcotics.
She has received nine Grammy Awards to date. In 2000, she was admitted to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. She was ranked 50 on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the 100 greatest singers of all time.
Raitt has experienced the blues she sings about throughout her career.
