About Bill Gaither
Gaither has been a father figure and a career booster to a great number of younger musicians in the Christian music industry. At the same time, he has assisted in the extension of the careers of those who came before him, for instance through producing Homecoming albums and tours. Mark Lowry, Michael W. Smith, Carman, Sandi Patty, Steve Green, Don Francisco, Amy Grant, Michael English, Jonathan Pierce, Karla Worley, and Cynthia Clawson are among contemporary Christian music musicians who got their start or gained popularity while traveling with the Gaithers.
Gaither established the Gaither Music Company, under which the operations of the Gaither organization’s record label, concert booking (through the Gaither Management Group), television production, copyright management (through the Gaither Copyright Management), retail store, recording studio (through the Gaither Studios, formerly Pinebrook Studios), and telemarketing departments are housed. In addition to that, he was the manager of the Gaither Family Resources retail center.
In 1955, shortly after Gaither completed his high school education, he began working at the radio station WRFD in Worthington, Ohio, where he was a member of the station’s gospel quartet. Ever since the 1950s, when he started his career as a singer with the Bill Gaither Trio, Gaither has never stopped working as a performer.
In the 1980s, Gaither was connected with Paragon Associates, which later went into business with Zondervan to purchase Benson Records, which is now owned by Sony BMG Music Entertainment. During this time, Gaither was a part of the partnership that formed.
