About Bill Dance
Dance, who was born and raised in Lynchburg, Tennessee, initially thought about pursuing a career in medicine, but he changed his mind after seeing a particularly gruesome motorcycle accident in the early 1960s. After that, he shifted his attention to taking part in bass fishing competitions. One of the companies that makes fishing lures was one of his sponsors, and they proposed that he launch a television show to advertise their product. In 1968, the program debuted for the first time on WHBQ-TV, which was Memphis’s ABC affiliate at the time.
Sunglasses and a baseball cap representing the Tennessee Volunteers are a part of Dance’s characteristic style. In the late 1960s, their coach, Doug Dickey, was the one who presented him with his first cap. Together with his wife, Dianne, he makes their home in Eads. In collaboration with fellow anglers Roland Martin and Jimmy Houston, he established the company Th3 Legends with the intention of marketing distinctive goods.
