He also gained recognition for using famous people as the subjects of his artwork; one of these people was Marilyn Monroe, for whom he produced a number of silkscreened photographic prints.
His studio, which he called The Factory, was renowned for bringing together eminent thinkers, drag queens, writers, Hollywood stars, and bohemian street people.
