About Andrea Bocelli
Italian classical crossover tenor, recording artist, and singer-songwriter Andrea Bocelli, OMRI, OMDSM. Despite having weak eyesight from birth, Bocelli suffered a brain hemorrhage and become permanently blind at the age of 12 as a result of a football accident in which he was hit in the eye while playing goalkeeper. In a desperate attempt to save his sight, doctors turned to leeches, but they failed, and Bocelli’s sight remained black.
For the Warner Bros. animated feature Quest for Camelot in 1998, Bocelli teams up with Céline Dion to perform a duet of The Prayer, which won a Golden Globe for Best Original Song and was nominated for an Academy Award in the same category. The solo rendition of the movie song that is played during the final credits is also performed by Bocelli.
One of People magazine’s 50 Most Beautiful People in 1998 was Andrea Bocelli.
