Albert Lincoln Roker Jr. was born on August 20, 1954 and is an American weather forecaster, journalist, television personality, actor, and author with an estimated net worth of $75 million. Al Roker is the current weather anchor on NBC’s Today.
Al Roker was born Albert Lincoln Roker on August 20, 1954, in Queens, New York. As a student at New York’s prestigious Xavier High School, Al was a member of the Cartooning and Illustration club but it wasn’t until he was studying communications at the State University in Oswego that the weather caught his eye.
Al took his first job as a weatherman while still in school, talking cold fronts and high pressure systems while at WTVH in Syracuse, New York. After he received his bachelor’s degree, to jobs in Washington, D.C., and Cleveland. He left WKYC in Cleveland in 1983 to become the weekend forecaster on WNBC in New York.
He was soon substituting for Today‘s Willard Scott, the much loved weatherman. Many say this early exposure on Today was due to Roker’s charisma while doing stunts on NBC’s Late Night with David Letterman. When Scott retired from Today in the mid 90s (though he still makes appearances), Al was awarded the weather anchor position.
In 2016, the non-fiction book Been There, Done That: Family Wisdom for Modern Times, written by Roker and his wife Deborah Roberts, was published.
Roker was honored for 40 years at NBC, in 2018. As of 2023, Al Roker’s net worth is estimated to be $75 million. The Today Plaza was officially named the “Rokerfeller Plaza” in his honor.
