Who Is Adam Driver

Adam Driver has become a household name over the past few years, almost out of the blue. Though most would immediately recognize him as the Star Wars franchise’s moody villain, Kylo Ren, he has since generated a lot of buzz from critically acclaimed films such as Marriage Story (2019) & BlacKkKlansman (2018). He received an Oscar nomination for both. But he hasn’t had the most traditional journey to get to where he is now.

Adam Driver has a net worth of $10 million dollars, as of 2020.

How Did Adam Driver Get So Rich?

It was his performance in the Star Wars franchise that earned him his millions. Not just because The Force Awakens raked in 2 billion dollars at the box office, but also because his unnerving and attention-grabbing performance booked him in for a further two Star Wars films; The Last Jedi & The Rise of Skywalker. Adam Driver seems more drawn to dramatic roles but taking a turn in the world’s most famous Sci-Fi franchise has certainly bolstered his bank account the most. He’ll likely be reprising his role as Kylo Ren for years in Video Games and spin-offs.

After Kylo Ren, Driver began getting more lead and supporting roles in films such as Steven Soderbergh’s Logan Lucky (2017) and, as mentioned earlier, BlacKkKlansman. He is now reported to have a net worth of £10 million. How much of that is attributed tohis Stars Wars roles or getting the breakthrough as a lead is unknown; but he isn’t doing too badly regardless.

Why Is He So Famous?

Driver was in the military before he made the breakthrough as an actor. Always enthusiastic for the arts, he enlisted for the U.S Marine Corps not long as he was rejected by Juilliard School to study drama. It was the same Juillard School that accepted him almost four years later after being medically discharged from the Marines for a biking accident.

Graduating from Juilliard would not only be the catalyst that took him to Broadway shows in New York City but a period of his life that defined what characters he would go on to play. Driver has said that his classmates at Juillard saw him as “an intimidating and volatile figure” – exactly the way you could describe Kylo Ren and perhaps it was this experience that he drew on.

It was a role in television that drew him into the spotlight however, not Star Wars. Two years prior to The Force Awakens, in 2012, Driver played Adam Sackler in HBO’s Girls. Sackler was another volatile character, the boyfriend of Lena Dunham’s lead role. Three Emmy nominations later and he’s cast as Kylo Ren in the highly anticipated Star Wars revival, The Force Awakens.

What Makes Driver So Successful?

Referring back to his time in Juilliard, Driver’s classmates described him as intimidating and volatile and it’s these traits he draws on most frequently. His most famous roles, in Girls and Star Wars display him as a unpredictable and a somewhat anti-hero. Additionally, he has two and a half years of military experience when it comes to playing these darker roles.

It took a lot of grit and determination for Driver to come out of the military, reapply to drama school and move to New York on a whim. We can only assume that he is a very driven (pun not intended) individual. Before he had his international success as Kylo Ren, he had to play a lot of minor roles, as most actors do, and it’s sheer persistence that got him to where he is now.

Summing-Up

Though Adam Driver was certainly hard-working and motivated through his early years as an actor – it was a role in a major franchise that really earned him his bucks. When actors perform in popular franchise as characters who will be re-imagined for years to come they book an early retirement. How many films, television shows and games has the character Han Solo appeared in? Plenty of opportunities to Harrison Ford to earn a small fortune and the same goes for Adam Driver.

But also Driver’s story is an underdog story. The man who joined the military after being rejected from drama school had the determination to try again and is now a Hollywood star.
